My Story

I grew up in Hempstead, Long Island, with parents who had a vision for their family. My father taught me to say “I can” and explore solutions. My mother helped shape my education and opened opportunities that influenced the course of my life.
Music gave expression to my individuality. From third grade through high school, percussion became part of my identity, and people knew me as “the drummer boy.” I still play as a hobby.
The people who helped me grow
At Brown’s Hotel in the Catskills, Roger Brooks hired me as a bellhop and became a mentor, helping me develop the skills of a social director. In Las Vegas, Bob Solomon recognized my ability to build relationships and guided my growth in clothing sales. Their teachings built upon the foundation my parents had given me.
My working life also included racism and setbacks. I carried forward the skills, determination, and willingness to learn that helped me pursue new opportunities.
Learning through experience
An opportunity with Johnson & Johnson began my career in healthcare. I went on to work in healthcare technology sales, marketing, and business development, with a focus on electronic health records and revenue cycle management. My final project was with Canon Healthcare, before my retirement in 2021.
I did not complete my college degree. Self-discipline, mentors, job experience, and continued learning gave me a foundation to challenge myself and grow.
The life I am reflecting on today
I am a proud father of three children. I taught them to dream and find their own authenticity. Today, I am writing about the people and experiences that shaped me, and how those teachings relate to the person I have become.
